Compatibility
Lan-Share targets current versions of major modern browsers on desktop and mobile. The best experience is usually on recent Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox versions with JavaScript enabled and a trusted HTTPS connection.
Required browser capabilities include WebRTC data channels, WebSocket, Web Crypto, Blob URLs, file input support, and enough memory to handle the selected file. The File System Access API can improve saving behavior where supported, but Lan-Share also works with standard browser download behavior.
Network behavior matters. Direct transfer works best when both devices are on the same local network and the browser can establish peer connectivity. VPNs, corporate proxies, carrier-grade NAT, guest Wi-Fi isolation, strict firewalls, and browser privacy modes can limit direct connections.
Mobile browsers may pause work when the screen locks, the tab is backgrounded, battery saver is enabled, or the OS decides to reclaim memory. Keep both pages open until the transfer completes.
Large files depend on browser memory, network stability, and device performance. If a large transfer fails, try a smaller file, keep both devices awake, move closer to the Wi-Fi access point, or use a desktop browser for the sending side.
